Mercedes-Benz Chooses CAM-POST V-12 to Drive Assembly Plants

Montreal , February 1, 1999 —ICAM Technologies Corporation is pleased to announce that DaimlerChrysler has chosen CAM-POST®, ICAM’s world-class NC post-processor development tool, for their assembly plants in the United States and Brazil. CAM-POST will work behind CATIA CAD/CAM systems in both facilities.

The DaimlerChrysler U.S. assembly plant, located in Alabama, produces the popular M-Class sport-utility vehicles. One reason CAM-POST V-12 was chosen, according to engineer David Goolsby, is because it is compatible with most manufacturing software, a feature that will reduce compatibility problems and save the company time. DaimlerChrysler expects to increase production at the plant by 20% in 1999.

The Brazilian assembly plant, located in Sao Paulo, produces trucks and chassis parts for the South American market. “We chose CAM-POST” says Marcia Lorena, “because this software is known by our technical department to be one of the best in the world in CAD-CAM technology.”

John J. CAM-POST NC post-processing software generates programs that transform CAD/CAM cutter location (CL) files into the specific machine code required by NC machines. CAM-POST works seamlessly with all major CAD/CAM systems, hardware platforms, and NC machines to deliver support for up to 15 axes of control.

CAM-POST V-12, ICAM’s latest release, now offers High Speed Machining support and emulation, an option which can dramatically improve the performance of almost any NC machine. V-12 also features a number of other technologies designed to make machining faster and more accurate, including NURBS fitting, tangential arc fitting, and intelligent alternate tool path selection.
